Kendake Amanitore
Meroe
1 - 20 CE
“Daughter of Re”
Grand-daughter of Amanirenas, Amanitore, led the most prosperous time in Meroitic history with over 200 builds. Their wealth was maintained by the export of gold, jewelry, exotic animals and textiles. A Kendake, Queen Mother, was so powerful that she could create her son as a ruler and order a king to commit suicide to end his life and he was required to obey.
Amanitore’s Egyptian inscriptions read:
“Daughter of Re, the mistress of diadem, Amanitore, the queen of upper and lower Egypt, the mistress of two lands, Merikare.”
“Stay, stay on the Great Throne, Isis, mistress of the underworld, like the moon, which grows like an egg upon traversing the heaven, may your daughter Amanitore be given life.”
