Florence Mills also known as the "Queen of Happiness", was known for her effervescent stage presence, delicate voice, and winsome, wide-eyed beauty- debuted at 7 yo. She was the first African American woman to star in a show on Broadway “Dixie to Broadway”. We chose her because through research we found that her fame has been forgotten because there is no footage from her performances. She passed at the early age of 31. We highlight and salute our ancestor Florence Mills. We encourage you to learn more about her! Her legacy matters and her accomplishments made it possible for many of us today. Thank you Florence!
